Belgium vs Team USA Predicted Starting 5s and Depth Charts for August 1 | 2024 Paris Women's Olympics Basketball

After a disappointing 83-69 defeat to Germany to begin the 2024 Paris Olympics, Belgium’s backs are against the wall ahead of a tough fixture against a rampant Team USA who beat Japan 102-76 in their opening fixture.

The USWBWNT have been triumphant in their past four games against Belgium, and a win would see them sail through the group stages. The pair’s last meeting came earlier this year February, with the reining Olympic gold medallist running out 81-79 winners.

Rachid Meziane has no new injury concerns, but he still needs to select a team to face the nine-time gold medal winners, USA, and avoid falling to a 0-2 record.

Changes are likely for a side that delivered a lackluster performance against Germany, though Emma Meesseman, Julie Vanloo, and Kyara Linskens are expected to keep their starting spots as the team aims to enhance their offensive threat.

Cheryl Reeve’s foray into the quadrennial showpiece was as close to flawless as we are ever likely to see. Not only was the performance outstanding, but they also avoided any injuries or setbacks, which means Reeve is likely to stick with the same starting five that excelled against Japan.

Belgium vs. Team USA: Preview and player to watch

USA were breathtaking in the opening fixture and looked every bit the legitimate gold medal contender that they were tipped to be in their opening match. The team's star power was evident, with A'ja Wilson leading the charge with 24 points, Breanna Stewart contributing 22, and three others scoring in double figures. Chelsea Gray orchestrated the offense with 13 assists.

While Belgium weren’t altogether convincing against Germany as they looked lethargic and a shadow of the team that had impressed for the past two years. They must work as a cohesive unit defensively to keep the U.S’ star filled attack at bay if they are to have any chance of getting anything on Thursday.

As previously mentioned, A'ja Wilson is the standout player to watch, having nearly scored triple-double against Japan just a few days ago. Her ability to distribute the ball, score, and rebound could be truly spellbinding to watch. If she ticks, USA tick, and that’s why she is certainly one to watch.

Team USA could secure a place knockout with a game spare, if they win the game and the corresponding Group C fixture between Japan and Germany also falls in their favour. A loss, meanwhile, for Belgium could end their Paris 2024 campaign.
