Breanna Stewart's partner Marta Xargay once opened up about differences in 'splurging' habits: "Spend the money differently"
WNBA star Breanna Stewart and her partner Marta Xargay understand that smart financial management can be one of the keys to a successful relationship. The couple has had success in their careers, but that does not mean they share the same philosophy when it comes to spending.
In a Zoom interview with "Brides" in 2021, they once opened up about their spending habits and how Stewart tends to be the "splurger" in the relationship. Stewart and Xargay both emphasized communication when it comes to understanding their partner's approach to finances. Xargay discussed the issue of "splurging" and how they like to shell out for different things.
"I think we all have those moments," Xargay said. "Sometimes, I still have them. Maybe we will spend the money differently or on different things, but we are OK with it. I’m OK with the way she spends our money, and she's OK with the way I do."
The article went on to state that Breanna Stewart is more of the splurger, while Xargay is more of the saver.
The couple first met in 2018 when they were teammates at the Russian club Dynamo Kursk. Their relationship progressed from there, and after Stewart proposed in May 2021, they were married shortly after in July of the same year.
They currently have two children together. Their daughter Ruby was born in 2021, and their son, Theo Josep, was welcomed into the world in 2023.
Stewart and Xargay are both exceptional basketball players and have competed at the highest level. They have the funds to spend but say it is important for them to teach their children the value of money and hard work.
"[Money] doesn’t just like come on trees. You have to work for it. Hopefully, [we'll] show her that if she wants something, to save up to buy it," Stewart said when discussing her plan for daughter Ruby.
Breanna Stewart makes her feelings clear to wife Marta Xargay during Spain visit
The WNBA is currently on break, and after winning an Olympic gold medal and a WNBA championship over the last six months, Breanna Stewart deserved some time off. The New York Liberty forward used the offseason to take a trip to Spain and visit her partner Marta Xargary's hometown of Girona.
Last month, Xargay shared a collection of pictures on her Instagram account from Spain. That led to a touching response from Stewart, who jumped into the comments section with the following message:
"Mi vida es mejor contigo 🥰💍❤️"
The message from the Liberty star directly translates from Spanish to English as "My life is better with you."
Breanna Stewart will now prepare for the inaugural edition of the women's basketball tournament Unrivaled, which is set to start in January. She will then have a few months off before returning for the 2025 WNBA season, which begins in May.
