Cameron Brink feels full circle moment as she gets candid on Portland landing WNBA franchise

Cameron Brink, who attended high school in Oregon, is excited for Portland after the city landed the right for the 15th WNBA team in the league on Wednesday. The Los Angeles Sparks star expressed her excitement for her home city, which will have a team by the 2026 WNBA season. For Brink, it was a full-circle moment.

"I think it's great," Brink told Nick Krupke of KPTV. "I am biased but I think there should have been a team here. I mean we were the first of NBA teams, the Fire. So, I think it's a full circle moment and I am really proud for the league's growing."

This isn't the first time Portland will have a WNBA team of its own. The city had its own team, the Portland Fire, which played three seasons in the league from 2000 to 2002 before being folded.

The WNBA decided to add the 15th team to the league on September 18th this month. Before this, a team in Toronto and the Golden State Valkyrie got the right to have a team in the league. The Valkyrie will join the WNBA next season.

According to the WNBA, the team in Portland will be owned by RAJ Sports. Lisa Bhathal Merage and Alex Bhathal will lead the ownership. The team will join the league in 2026 and will have their home at the Moda Center.

Cameron Brink talks about earning on and off the court

Cameron Brink hasn't fully recovered from her ACL injury. The Sparks rookie was a monster on the court and was among the top three in blocks per game before she went down. However, Brink's professional life outside the WNBA hasn't stopped.

Earlier this month, Cameron Brink was at the CNBC and Boardroom's Game Plan Summit.

"Keeping the main thing, the main thing is really important because even though my W contract may not be as much as I'm making off the court, that is how I show up in this space and that's what I love to do," Brink said at CNBC and Boardroom's Game Plan Summit.

Brink also added that she shows up to other professional spaces like a true professional, irrespective of what goes on the WNBA court.

"So I've been rehabbing really hard. I did a shoot with LegalZoom, probably seven days after I got injured … and it just kind of reminded me like this injury is not going to limit me. I can still be a businesswoman," she added.

In Cameron Brink's absence, the Sparks failed to make the playoffs and were the worst team (8-32) in the WNBA. Hopefully, when Brink makes her comeback next season, they can have a good run.
