Chicago Sky coach Tyler Marsh shares 4-word tribute to Becky Hammon after his Las Vegas Aces exit

New Chicago Sky coach Tyler Marsh paid respect to Becky Hammon, the Las Vegas Aces' coach, with a heartfelt message on his Instagram stories. The 37-year-old coach spent three seasons under Hammon, taking in everything the two-time WNBA champion could teach him before leaving the squad and joining a young project in Chicago.

On Wednesday, Marsh shared a picture of himself with Hammon with a four-word message to thank everything he learned from the former San Antonio Spurs assistant coach.

"Could never repay you. 🤍," he captioned the post.

Tyler Marsh was an assistant coach for the Aces squads that won the WNBA title in 2022 and 2023 and became the second from Hammon's branch (Natalie Nakase with the Golden State Valkyries) to get a head-coaching role ahead of the 2025 season.

Besides learning from Becky Hammon, Marsh also had the chance to see Philadelphia 76ers coach Nick Nurse and Indiana Pacers coach Rick Carlisle do their thing at some point in their coaching career. He shared paths with Nurse on the Rio Grande Valley Vipers in 2012-13 and then the Toronto Raptors from 2018 through 2020.

He joined forces with Carlisle on the Indiana Pacers despite being a coach from the prior staff. Carlisle kept Marsh on his staff before they parted in 2022.

Tyler Marsh has strong message about fit with the Sky

Tyler Marsh is set to replace a legend of the game, Teresa Weatherspoon, after she only spent one season with the team. This could mean that the front office wants results as soon as possible, but Marsh doesn't seem to be bothered by any type of pressure.

"A big part of my philosophy is that trust factor. Once you can get a player to buy into you and once you buy into the individual, the basketball stuff comes easy," Marsh said, according to CBS News Chicago. "So, we want to invest in people first."

He touched on what he'd do to unlock Angel Reese and Kamilla Cardoso's potential.

"They want to do things the right way," Marsh said. "Hopefully, my leadership is able to help extend that to them. We want them to improve and to get better, but also want to highlight their strengths and what they do well."

Marsh is entering a complex situation in Chicago, but he's not shying away from the challenge at hand.
