The New York Liberty got their first taste of preseason action against the Connecticut Sun at Barclays Center on Friday.
The Sun, who commenced their preseason with a 79-59 loss against the Seattle Storm on May 4, bounced back with a 94-86 victory against the defending champions.
Tina Charles led the way for the Sun with 17 points, six rebounds, and three assists. Jacy Sheldon added 16 points on 5-for-6 shooting while Olivia Nelson-Ododa chipped in 15 points and seven rebounds. Marine Johannes topscored for the Liberty with 12 points off the bench.
Trending
Though both teams shot efficiently from the field, the Liberty were rusty from their long layoff as they committed 18 turnovers, double that of the Sun. Connecticut also outrebounded New York 32-23, getting a 12-3 edge on the offensive glass. The difference in effort on the boards helped the Sun mount a strong second-half surge.
