Diana Taurasi dissects A'ja Wilson's "unguardable" skillset after MVP frontrunner erupts with huge double-double performance

Phoenix Mercury superstar Diana Taurasi showered MVP frontrunner A'ja Wilson with high praise following a tough 97-79 defeat to the Las Vegas Aces at the Footprint Center in Phoenix, Arizona, on Sunday. Wilson, a two-time WNBA MVP, delivered an impressive double-double with 41 points and 17 rebounds.

Despite the defending champion Aces facing a challenging season, Wilson has been spectacular, giving her all in every game. Her dominance has been one of the storylines of the current season, with many fans and analysts backing her as the clear favorite for MVP accolades.

Taurasi has witnessed Wilson's growth since her rookie season. The legendary WNBA star, who has won two Olympic gold medals alongside the Aces' standout, was asked about Wilson's dominance after the game. Taurasi described Wilson as "unguardable."

"The has been some amazing players in our league, but what what she (A'ja Wilson) is doing right now just unthinkable...how well she is playing on both ends," Taurasi told reporters after the game.
"She’s just unguardable. You guys look at her as a post, I look at her as a guard. It's not like she is posting up. Everything is face up, jab steps and I believe she has making threes now...good luck for the next 10 years to this league if she is making threes," she added.

Following her recent on-court brilliance, Wilson joined Candace Parker as the only WNBA player to have recorded at least 40 points and 15 rebounds in a single game.

Taurasi praised Wilson's relentless drive to elevate her game each year and stated that the 27-year-old is poised to dominate the league for years.

"Kudos to her, every year she has gotten better, added something to her game and she is in amazing shape. It's truly just amazing what she has been able to do and she will continue to do it...that's the mindset she has," Taurasi asserted.

A'ja Wilson's remarkable season

A'ja Wilson has dominated the WNBA this season unlike any other player has done in the past. No player in the league history has averaged 55 points and 10 rebounds for a season but Wilson is on course to change that.

The two-time Olympic gold medalist leads the league in scoring (27.5 points per game) and is second in rebounds (12 boards per game). Wilson has been elite on both ends of the floor as she also leads the league in blocks per game (2.7).

Despite the 27-year-old's mind-boggling stat line, the Aces are in fourth position in the league with a 20-12 record after 32 games.
