Diana Taurasi notches up elite Olympic milestone on Team USA women’s basketball squad

WNBA superstar Diana Taurasi made Olympic history on Sunday by becoming the first woman to win six gold medals in a team sport. She accomplished the feat after the United States earned its eight straight Olympic gold on Sunday at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Taurasi, 42, was a part of the 12-woman U.S. squad that swept its way to the gold at the Paris Games, culminating with a hard-earned 67-66 victory over hosts France in the finals.

It was Diana Taurasi's sixth gold medal at the Olympics, following those in Athens, Greece (2004), Beijing (2008), London (2012), Rio de Janeiro (2016) and Tokyo (2021).

To celebrate the amazing feat of the three-time WNBA champion, NBC Sports' On Her Turf posted a photo of Taurasi on X, formerly Twitter, to honor her. It captioned its post:

"The Diana Taurasi Dynasty. #ParisOlympics"

At the Paris Games, Diana Taurasi only played limited minutes, giving way to younger stars like A'ja Wilson and Breanna Stewart to carry the cudgels. She played five games and averaged one point, 1.6 assists and 1.2 rebounds in 11 minutes of play.

She now returns to the Phoenix Mercury (13-12), where she has been going for 16.1 points, 4.7 rebounds and 2.6 steals in 21 games. They resume their campaign on Aug. 15 in a road game against the Chicago Sky. 1


Diana Taurasi proud to have donned the U.S. colors in six Olympics

Diana Taurasi played in her final Olympic Games in Paris and is proud to have done it six times in her illustrious career with as my gold medals to show for.

While she saw her role diminished in the latest iteration of the Summer Games in the French capital, she said that it was still a privilege to be given the opportunity again to represent the United States on the biggest stage.

The 42-year-old WNBA star shared her thoughts on being called up again for national team duties ahead of the 2024 Paris Olympics, which culminated in the U.S. winning an eight straight gold medal. Taurasi shared by way of Olympic.com:

"I'm 42, six Olympics. It's just been such an honor to put that jersey on every single time."
"USA Basketball is such an amazing culture of history and partnership, and teammates and all these relationships that build throughout your whole career. You put the jersey on for the next person, and people have done that for me, and, hopefully, I'm doing it for the next generation."

Diana Taurasi started her Olympic journey in 2004 in Athens, Greece, and was a staple in the next five Summer Games. Throughout her Olympic career, she had averages of 9.8 points, 2.8 rebounds and 2.8 assists in 43 games.
