"They had to be trolling" - Dave Portnoy calls out broadcast coverage of Angel Reese’s lay-up against Fever

Barstool Sports owner Dave Portnoy had something to say about the broadcast coverage of Angel Reese on Sunday. The Indiana Fever and Chicago Sky played against each other on Saturday for the second time this season. Without the Fever's best player, Caitlin Clark, it could've been an easy game for the Sky.

However, the Reese-led team had a disappointing 79-52 defeat against the Fever. The starting power forward continued to face offensive challenges, scoring just four points on 28.6% shooting. Her 12 rebounds didn't assist the squad much because Indiana controlled the contest.

During the game, CBS Sports posted a clip on X of Reese scoring a layup. Portnoy noticed the video and called out the network for posting it. He accused CBS Sports of trolling the Sky forward since the team dealt with a difficult loss.

"Was this a troll tweet by CBS Sports?! 😂. I mean the Sky lost by 30. Angel had 4 points for the game. She is shooting like 20% for season and was a -20 for the game. And they post her hitting a wide open layup like she’s MJ 😂😂 They had to be trolling. That ain’t right!" Portnoy posted on X.

However, when the video was uploaded, the game wasn't over. The network had no idea about the outcome and just posted Reese's highlight.

But Portnoy isn't wrong about what he said about Reese. The former No. 7 pick is having a terrible season offensively in her first seven games of the WNBA season. She's averaging 9.1 points, 12.3 rebounds and 2.6 assists on 30.9% shooting.

In the second game of the season for the Sky, Angel Reese had two points on 0-for-8 shooting. Although she had 12 rebounds and three steals, it wasn't enough to win over the New York Liberty.

Former Sky star encourages Angel Reese to follow Caitlin Clark

Following the loss against the Fever, former Chicago Sky star Candace Parker weighed in on Angel Reese's development. She emphasized the need for Reese to improve her team play, citing Caitlin Clark as an example of a player who has elevated those around her.

Parker said the sophomore forward needs to be a more dynamic player, not just concentrating on crashing the glass. She added that Reese should learn how to play off the ball, as well as enhance her ability to handle the basketball.

Parker also shut down the hype around the Caitlin Clark-Angel Reese rivalry. According to her, their difference in play styles makes it hard for many to make the comparison.
