"I’m sad to be leaving" - Cameron Brink makes major injury announcement in Unrivaled departure

When Unrivaled announced that it'd be expanding its rosters, Cameron Brink was among those to ink a deal with the new league. Days before games officially get underway, the former No. 2 pick made a major announcement regarding her status.

During the WNBA season, Brink saw her rookie year come to a very premature end. She would be sidelined for the year after just 15 games due to an ACL injury.

Ahead of the start of Unrivaled, it appears that Cameron Brink is still recovering from this devastating injury. She announced on Instagram Monday that she will not be playing in games this season.

"Unrivaled was kind enough to allow me to still join even though I’m still fresh in my ACL recovery.
I’m sad to be leaving (due to work, continuing my rehab, and needing to be in LA) but I will be back with my girls soon."

Brink was named to the Lunar Owls as a wild card. The rest of the roster includes names like Napheesa Collier, Courtney Williams and Skylar Diggins-Smith. At this time, it is unknown if Unrivaled will bring someone in to replace Brink due to injury.

Following her announcement on social media, many people flooded the comment section of Cameron Brink's post. Among those to react to the news of her stepping down was one of her Lunar Owls teammates.

Among those who are most invested in Unrivaled is Minnesota Lynx star Napheesa Collier. Over the past year, she and Breanna Stewart have worked tirelessly to get this new venture off the ground. In a few short days, they will finally see their efforts pay off.

Collier was among the many people within the WNBA and Unrivaled to comment on Cameron Brink's post. She replied with a series of emojis to show her support for the LA Sparks forward.

Aside from being one of the co-founders of Unrivaled, Collier will also be leading the charge for the Lunar Owls. She is coming off her best season in the WNBA, winning Defensive Player of the Year and finishing runner-up for MVP.

Collier and the Lunar Owls don't have to wait long to debut, as they are slated to play in the first-ever game in Unrivaled's history. They are scheduled to face off against Stewart's team, Mist Basketball Club, at 7:00 pm Eastern Friday in Miami.

While Brink will not be competing, there is a chance she could be there in person to show support for her team and the league as a whole.
