Jaylen Brown candidly picks between Angel Reese & Caitlin Clark for WNBA ROTY
Boston Celtics star and reigning NBA Finals MVP Jaylen Brown has given his two pennies on the WNBA Rookie of the Year race. The swingman is coming off a strong season, winning the 18th title in franchise history while playing a key role in his team's success.
His voice carries a lot of weight, which is why he was one of the NBA players consulted about who should win the WNBA ROY award this season. The debate includes Angel Reese and Caitlin Clark, two of the best rookies the league has seen in recent times, with Jaylen Brown saying that one player is in the lead.
"Right now I think Angel Reese," Brown said.
Other players, like Minnesota Timberwolves veteran Luka Garza, picked Caitlin Clark, while Immanuel Quickley of the Toronto Raptors selected Angel Reese, too.
The race between the players got heated in the first half of the 2024 WNBA season. Angel Reese broke the record for most consecutive double-doubles in a single season with 15, while Caitlin Clark became the first rookie to record a triple-double in league history.
They both are making history, but there is a clear favorite depending on who you ask.
Before Jaylen Brown, Shaquille O'Neal shows support to Angel Reese over Caitlin Clark
Before Jaylen Brown offered his opinion on this matter, four-time NBA champion Shaquille O'Neal sided with Angel Reese. Now that she's a pro, O'Neal hasn't stopped lobbying for her, even comparing the Clark-Reese rivalry to the Beyonce-Taylor Swift feud in the music industry.
O'Neal and Reese are both LSU alums, developing a strong enough relationship that he escorted Reese on her senior day in March. He's also Reebok's president of basketball, while Reese is a Reebok athlete.
"Angel Reese is the Beyonce of the WNBA. And Caitlin Clark is the Taylor Swift of the WNBA. Oh, don't tell me that I didn't make a good analogy because it is perfect.
"Yo, Angel Reese is letting people know, do not get it twisted: 'Tickets are selling for the WNBA because of me, too. Not just Caitlin Clark.' I mean, let's be real. Hey, I'm a big fan of Angel Reese," comedian Godfrey shared in a post that O'Neal shared on his Instagram stories.
The WNBA is in the middle of the Olympic break and the ROY award appears to be up for grabs but only for these two. Once the action resumes, they will have the chance to improve their numbers and lead their teams to the postseason.
