Napheesa Collier drops 2-word reaction after Cameron Brink signs up for Unrivaled league
Minnesota Lynx superstar Napheesa Collier is excited to have LA Sparks forward Cameron Brink on board their newly formed 3-on-3 Unrivaled Basketball League. She took to her Instagram story to welcome the versatile player out of Stanford to the fold.
Brink, 22, who saw her WNBA rookie campaign come to an end after just 15 games because of a season-ending knee injury, earned a wildcard spot and signed a multi-year deal to be part of the Lunar Owls in Unrivaled, which tips off its inaugural season in January in Miami, Florida.
She is expected to join the team in preseason training but will only see action in the 2026 campaign as she continues to recuperate from her injury.
Napheesa Collier, who will be a teammate of Brink with the Lunar Owls, dropped a two-word reaction to the Sparks star joining them, writing on her IG story:
"Hey teammate."
Apart from Napheesa Collier and Brink, the Lunar Owls have Skylar Diggins-Smith (Seattle Storm), Allisha Gray (Atlanta Dream), Natasha Cloud (Phoenix Mercury) and Shakira Austin (Washington Mystics). Their coach is DJ Sackman.
Brink is no stranger to 3-on-3 play as she was selected to be part of Team USA's women's 3-a-side squad for the Paris Olympic Games before she got injured.
In her first WNBA season, she averaged 7.5 points, 5.3 rebounds, 2.3 blocks, 1.7 assists and 1.1 steals in 15 games.
Napheesa Collier says playing overseas moved her to push for Unrivaled
Napheesa Collier joined forces with fellow WNBA superstar Breanna Stewart to establish the Unrivaled Basketball League, moved by her experience playing overseas during the WNBA offseason.
The 28-year-old veteran player shared in an interview with ESPN that their newly formed league is designed to provide a viable alternative for women professional players to strut their stuff while earning good money. She highlighted that while going overseas is still an option, it is, however, not without its sacrifices.
"I think it just really opened my eyes even more to the problem that we have going overseas. It's really hard to be away from family for so long, but unfortunately, it's like really the only option we have if we wanna make money in the offseason, we want to continue to grow our game, and it's just leaves a huge hole marketing-wise, so we just saw a lot of issues that we wanted to try to find a solution for."
Collier played overseas for two years, splitting time in the French and Turkish leagues.
The inaugural season of Unrivaled will take place from Jan. 17 to March 17 in Miami. It will feature six teams with six players each.
