Napheesa Collier reacts after brutal 4-word dig from teammate after Hannah Hidalgo's masterclass
Before she was drafted by the Minnesota Lynx back in 2019, Napheesa Collier spent her college career at UConn. As the women's college basketball season gets underway, she appears to be engaging in some trash talk with one of her teammates.
On Thursday night, No. 2 ranked UConn squared off against No. 8 ranked Notre Dame. Thanks to a 29-point barrage from Hannah Hidalgo, the Fighting Irish were able to pull off the upset and hand the Huskies their first loss of the season.
Leading up to the game, Napheesa Collier was exchanging words with her Lynx teammate Kayla McBride, who attended Notre Dame. However, it was McBride who would have the last laugh. She jokingly called out Collier on Instagram, which garnered a response from the four-time All-Star.
"Chill chill chill," Collier wrote in response to McBride.
McBride is a seasoned veteran of the WNBA, having been in the league for a decade. Her journey began in 2014, when the San Antonio Stars drafted her third overall.
McBride has had stints with the Stars and Las Vegas Aces but has been with the Lynx since 2021. She is coming off her best season with the franchise, averaging 15.0 points and 3.2 assists while shooting 40.7% from beyond the arc.
Napheesa Collier reacts to UConn coach's historic achievement
Having attended UConn, Napheesa Collier had the opportunity to play for Geno Auriemma. The WNBA star was one of many people who gave the longtime coach his flowers following his latest historic achievement.
Back in November, Auriemma picked up the 1,217th win of his career. This now makes him the winningest coach in Division I history between both men and women.
Following this monumental victory, Napheesa Collier took to Instagram to congratulate her former coach. She posted a picture of the two of them, with a heartfelt message praising what his guidance has done for her over the years.
"Congratulations, Coach! Can’t explain what your leadership has meant over the years. Was so happy I got to celebrate this moment with you!"
Collier had a lot of success during her four-year run at UConn, most notably winning a national title as a freshman in 2016. In her later years, he emerged into a dominant two-way force. Colliers' best individual campaign came as a senior when she averaged 20.8 points, 10.8 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 1.5 steals.
Collier is one of the many WNBA superstars Auriemma has produced in his nearly four-decade-long run as head coach at UConn.
