"Next time, tap me in"- Dwyane Wade and Gabrielle Union's daughter Kaavia jokingly covets roster spot next to Angel Reese
Miami Heat legend Dwayne Wade’s youngest daughter Kaavia James wants to be the next superstar on the Chicago Sky roster. The six-year-old’s Instagram account saw the posting of a hilarious and heartwarming video which even saw her bag a basket.
Kaavia James was amongst the audience alongside her parents Dwayne Wade and Gabrielle Union during the game against LA Sparks at the Wintrust Arena in Chicago, and seemingly had a blast.
The video, which chronicled the entire experience, saw Kaavia score a mini-sized basket during the pre-game warmups, as she proceeded to high-five her dad. It also saw her sitting among the audience looking rather dissatisfied, as the caption encouraged Sky head coach Teresa Weatherspoon to put her on:
“Put me in coach.”
Of course, Kaavia James Wade is only 6 years old right now, so may not have been much help to the Sky, who wan out 93-73 winners. Still, her scoring a basket was enough for the following caption to be posted along with the clip:
"The genes speak for themselves 😅 Psst.. next time tap me in @chicagosky."
The video also saw her meeting Sky’s young star Angel Reese, who gave her a quick hug in the player’s tunnel before getting on her way. The clip concluded with a heartwarming photo session of the youngest member of the Wade family, as the entire group had a great time.
Chicago Sky get third win of the season against LA Sparks with Dwayne Wade in attendance
With Kaavia James and her parents in the audience, Angel Reese and the Chicago Sky did not disappoint. The Sky have had a mixed season thus far and came into the matchup looking to overturn a two-game losing streak. They started the game in dominant fashion, and opened up a 19-point lead by the end of the first half.
Marina Mabrey top-scored with 20 points for her team while Elizabeth Williams added 17, along with 11 rebounds. Dana Evans finished with 15 while Angel Reese had six points and six rebounds on the night. While the Sparks’ Dearica Hambey added 24 points and 13 rebounds, the Sky produced points across the board, with Chenedy Carter adding 14 points off the bench.
Despite a mixed start with a 3-3 record, the Sky are without their other star recruit from the 2024 WNBA draft in Kamilla Cardoso. The 23-year-old is recovering from a shoulder injury that she picked during the preseason and is expected to return in the coming week.
While she is a big doubt for the upcoming matchup against Caitlin Clark’s Indiana Fever, Cardoso’s eventual return will be a huge boost for the Chicago Sky.
