Nneka Ogwumike drops one-word reaction to Stanford forward's record-breaking double-double
The Stanford Cardinal women's basketball team is off to one of its best starts in the Atlantic Coast Conference, with a 7-2 record through its first nine games. Stanford is coming off a 94-88 loss to LSU, going toe-to-toe with one of the best teams in the country.
Despite the loss, Stanford star forward Nunu Agara posted a record-breaking individual performance. Agara scored a team-high 29 points on 12-of-16 shooting, connecting on both of her 3-point attempts.
She also grabbed 13 rebounds and dished out two assists, becoming the first Division I player since the 2002-03 season to record 29 points on 60% shooting and 13 rebounds on the road against an AP Top 5 opponent.
Stanford alum and 2016 WNBA Most Valuable Player Nneka Ogwumike showed support for Agara after her historic performance with a one-word comment on the team’s Instagram post.
"TUH," Ogwumike posted in the comments.
Nunu Agara and Nneka Ogwumike both come from Nigerian descent and are two of the most prominent Nigerian players in Cardinal basketball history. Agara is in her second season with the Cardinal. She was ranked as a four-star prospect in high school and committed to the team in 2023.
Ogwumike finished her 13th WNBA season in 2024, her first with the Seattle Storm after signing with the team in February. In 37 games she averaged 16.7 points, 7.6 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game, making her ninth WNBA All-Star appearance.
Nunu Agara breaking out in second season at Stanford
Nunu Agara is becoming one of the biggest storylines in college basketball this season thanks to a major leap in her development from last year. After appearing in 36 games as a freshman, Agara has stepped into a starting role in her sophomore season and is shining for the Cardinal.
In nine games this season, Agara is averaging 18.8 ppg, 7.0 rpg and 2.3 apg, shooting 56% from the field and 41.2% from 3-point range. She is the ACC's fifth-leading scorer and ranks No. 12 in rebounds per game.
Agara's 29-point performance against LSU marked her second consecutive 20-point game, following a 22-point, six-rebound effort in an 84-54 win over UC San Diego on Nov. 29. Agara and the Cardinal will return to the court on Friday to take on the California Golden Bears.
