PHOTOS: Napheesa Collier juggles WNBA offseason grind with new role

Reigning WNBA Defensive Player of the Year Napheesa Collier has expanded her skill set this offseason, not with a new basketball move, but by taking on a role as a commentator. The forward shared photos of herself commentating at Timberwolves games alongside Lynx legend Rebekkah Brunson.

Collier was on the sidelines during the Timberwolves' 97-87 victory over the LA Lakers on Friday, where Anthony Edwards and his teammates secured the win.

She posted images with Brunson and photos of her offseason workout routine, captioning them with:

“Workin.”

Fresh off her first trip to the WNBA Finals, where her Lynx team fell to the New York Liberty, Napheesa Collier stood out by averaging 19.0 points, 8.0 rebounds, 3.4 steals and 2.0 blocks per game, leading the series in both points and steals.

She is also preparing for the launch of the Unrivaled Basketball League, a 3-on-3 women’s league she co-founded with Breanna Stewart. The league is set to debut on Jan. 17, 2025, in Miami.

Collier will play for the Lunar Owls BC, alongside Mystics big Shakira Austin, Mercury guard Natasha Cloud, Storm guard Skylar Diggins-Smith, Dream guard Allisha Gray, and Valkyries guard Kate Martin.

What makes Napheesa Collier and Breanna Stewart’s Unrivaled unique?

WNBA stars Breanna Stewart and Napheesa Collier are gearing up to launch Unrivaled in Miami this January. The league aims to provide top WNBA players with a lucrative alternative to playing overseas during the offseason.

Unrivaled is set to offer the highest average salaries in women’s professional sports history, with every player earning at least six figures.

In a video on the Unrivaled YouTube channel, Breanna Stewart explained why it's important for players to receive equity in the league.

“It's really important for players to have equity in Unrivaled, because there's never gonna be another first,” she said. “Excited to have the league about to be up and running and continue to see where we're gonna grow so then when we look back five years from now, 10 years from now, it'll only be bigger and better.”

The average salary in Unrivaled is projected to be approximately $250,000.

“I think it's obviously really important to invest in women's sports, just knowing the way women's basketball used to work,” she said. “You used to play W, you used to go overseas, and now kind of changing that pattern and keeping players home in a different market where we're able to get better, have fun, make money.”

Alex Bazzell, a renowned basketball skills coach and Napheesa Collier's husband, is the first president of Unrivaled.

The 2025 season will air on TNT and TruTV and will be streamed on Max.
