Las Vegas Aces players Kate Martin and Liz Kitley were at Spectrum Center Sunday afternoon as they came to support their alma maters, Iowa and Virginia Tech. The two teams were going up against one another in nonconference play.

Martin wore a black and gold sweatshirt of the Hawkeyes, while Kitley sported a maroon and grey jacket with the Virginia Tech logo.

Iowa alum and Martin's former teammate Gabbie Marshall also sat courtside with the two. The three were part of the 15,424 crowd who witnessed the 71-52 victory of the Hawkeyes.

Iowa's Lucy Olsen was the game's leading scorer with 20 points, six rebounds and four assists. Addison O'Grady and Hannah Stuelke combined for 34 points and 10 rebounds for the Hawkeyes. Carleigh Wenzel led the Hokies with 14 points and seven boards.

Iowa faces Toledo on Wednesday for Military Appreciation Night and will have a match against Drake on Sunday (November 17).

Meanwhile, Virginia Tech hosts the next four games against UNC Asheville (Wednesday), Coppin State (Saturday), Rutgers (November 19) and Elon (November 23) in front of the Cassell Coliseum home crowd.

Kate Martin set to suit up for Unrivaled

Kate Martin is coming off her rookie season in the WNBA. She appeared in 34 games and started for two games, tallying 2.6 points and 1.6 rebounds in 11.5 minutes per game. The 6-foot guard had her best game against the Los Angeles Sparks, earning 13 points, four rebounds, and four assists.

Meanwhile, Kitley is yet to suit up with the Aces, as Las Vegas reserved her contract rights as one of the inactive players for the 2024 WNBA season. The 6-foot-6 center tore her ACL in college during the regular season finale against Virginia on March 3, 2024.

The next WNBA season will be expected to start in May 2025, but Martin is exploring other endeavors while waiting to play her second season as a pro.

On October 29, Kate Martin was announced as the 27th player of Unrivaled, a women's professional three-on-three basketball league founded by UConn teammates and WNBA stars Breanna Stewart and Napheesa Collier.

The new league starts on January 2025 with six confirmed teams - Laces, Lunar Owls, Mist, Phantoms, Rose and Vinyl. Other WNBA stars such as Kelsey Plum, Brittney Griner, Jewell Loyd, and Angel Reese are also slated to play.
