Sabrina Ionescu joins Luka Doncic's Youth Sports Council for kids' foundation alongside Steph Curry and other NBA stars
In her time in the WNBA, Sabrina Ionescu has given back to her community through charity countless times. On Thursday morning, the New York Liberty star continued that trend.
Dallas Mavericks star Luka Doncic has used his resources to start a youth sports council for his foundation, the Luka Doncic Foundation. Doncic invited stars across the NBA to join his foundation, as did one WNBA player, Sabrina Ionescu.
Ionescu joins a stacked roster working with the Luka Doncic Foundation, working alongside NBA stars and coaches in Steph Curry, Pau Gasol, Igor Kokosov, Steve Nash, Dirk Nowitzki, Tracy McGrady, and Bill Duffy.
Doncic touched on the opening of his foundation on Thursday.
"From day one of my life, basketball was my biggest source of happiness. Even nowadays, I feel the same way I felt when I was a kid. When I am on the court and having fun, I have a feeling that the ball is smiling back at me," Doncic wrote.
Doncic went on to discuss his desire to spread the joy he feels playing sports to the next generation of athletes:
"I wish that the youth around the world would have the same opportunities to experience that joy. Sport should be a space where kids can safely learn, grow, laugh, make mistakes and, most importantly, have fun. That's why with my foundation I am building an amazing team that will guide our work."
Curry also touched on joining Doncic's foundation and called it an "honor" to join the Youth Sports Leadership Council.
Sabrina Ionescu shares training video shooting left-handed
Despite coming off her first WNBA Championship, Sabrina Ionescu isn't satisfied. On Thursday afternoon, she shared a video of her offseason training on her Instagram story.
In the video, Ionescu was shooting left-handed, prompting the Liberty guard to share a humorous caption on her story post.
"Might mess around and switch (to) lefty next season," Ionescu said.
The three-time All-Star is coming off her best season in the WNBA, averaging 18.2 points, 6.2 assists, and 4.4 rebounds, earning second-team All-WNBA honors.
Alongside Breanna Stewart, Ionescu helped lead New York to their first WNBA Championship in franchise history, defeating the Minnesota Lynx in five games.
