Skylar Diggins-Smith reacts to Notre Dame's backcourt trio ft. Olivia Miles & more
Seattle Storm star Skylar Diggins-Smith reacted to the Notre Dame women's basketball team's backcourt trio's performance against Syracuse on Sunday. The trio, which includes Olivia Miles, Hannah Hidalgo and Sonia Citron, recorded 20+ double-double performances each to lead the Fighting Irish to a 93-62 victory.
Diggins-Smith, an alumnus of Notre Dame, reshared a post highlighting their performances on her Instagram story, lauding them for their performance.
"TUH!" Skylar captioned her IG story.
The game also featured a historic moment for Hannah Hidalgo as she reached 1,000 career points on a 3-pointer in the third quarter. She reached the milestone in just 44 games, becoming the fastest to do so in the program's history.
“Honestly, it’s truly a blessing to be able to reach that goal, considering all the guards ― Arike Ogunbowale, Skyler (Diggins-Smith), Jewel (Lloyd) ― all these top guards that have come through this program,” Hidalgo said. “I’m truly blessed and honored to have this accolade.”
With the win on Sunday, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish started their Atlantic Coast Conference campaign on a good note and are currently 7-2 for the season.
Skylar Diggins-Smith reacts to teammate's take on inclusive feminism
Seattle Storm star and WNBPA President Nneka Ogwumike made an empowering speech at the 2024 Global Women's Summit organized by The Washington Post last month. Nneka's comment on inclusive feminism resonated with her teammate, Skylar Diggins-Smith, who shared her admiration on the post of the segment shared by Nneka on her Instagram.
"Love my president," Skylar commented on the post.
Here's what Ogwumike said:
"And so, you know, at the end of the day, I always like to let everyone know that feminism is not exclusive to women," Nneka said. "We are the way we are because these are men that have empowered us to be the way that we can be and that have now allowed us to empower other women and each other for us to make things better than when we came."
Both Skylar Diggins-Smith and Nneka Ogwunike were picked up by the Seattle Storm during free agency last season. Diggins-Smith is signed with the team through 2025, while Ogwumike was signed on a one-year contract.
Skylar concluded the 2024 WNBA season averaging 15.1 points, 2.6 rebounds, 6.4 assists and 1.7 steals while shooting 42.7% from the field, including 29.1% from deep. Meanwhile, Nneka averaged 16.7 points, 7.6 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.9 steals while shooting 51.1%, including 40.5% from beyond the arc.
