South Carolina alum A'ja Wilson trolls Clemson with IG post as Gamecocks faces Tigers in rivalry football game
A'ja Wilson had a pointed message for the Clemson Tigers ahead of the South Carolina Gamecocks’ clash with one of the most storied programs in college football. The WNBA star shared a meme on her Instagram Stories aimed at making fun of the Tigers.
She reposted an image originally shared by Gamecocks fan page @southcarolinachicks of a man saying he stepped in something unpleasant, only to realize it was the Clemson logo on his shoe.
Wilson didn’t add a caption or comment, letting the image speak for itself.
The Gamecocks pulled off the upset with a close, hard-fought 17-14 win over the Clemson Tigers, a program that has produced major NFL stars like Deshaun Watson and Trevor Lawrence. With 1:08 to play, LaNorris Sellers scored a 20-yard touchdown to take the lead and secure the win over the No. 12-ranked team.
Clemson entered the game as a -2.5 favorite, but A'ja Wilson's team secured the victory to improve to 9-3 in the season. The Gamecocks now rank second in the ACC behind SMU (10-1), keeping their chances alive for a bowl game and a shot at the conference title.
A'ja Wilson makes 'annoying' admission about 2024 WNBA season, new fans
Just as she watched college football, plenty of new fans tuned in to see A'ja Wilson and the Las Vegas Aces. The player performed at a high level in 2024, becoming just the second unanimous WNBA in league history.
Reflecting on the challenges of the season, Wilson said it was frustrating to feel like she needed to prove herself to a new audience.
She said on "The Roommates Show":
"It wasn't the creeping growth that we were used to, it was like, 'No, we're taking a leap.' And that's something that you really don't see in leagues. It was like, 'Wow, look at us, look at where we've come,' but I felt like this year, it was like, 'This is the time. We're in the season of women's basketball.'
"And it was so much fun. It was aggravating, I'm not gonna lie. It was super annoying sometimes, because you feel like you have to reprove yourself," Wilson said.
The Aces were unable to defend their championship this season, succumbing to the eventual champions, the New York Liberty.
