Sue Bird names two reasons why the Minnesota Lynx are a dangerous playoff contender

The Minnesota Lynx look like title contenders for this year's ultimate WNBA prize.

The Commissioner's Cup champs are eyeing more hardware as the Lynx have built momentum in their first five games back from the All-Star break.

Minnesota is 5-0 since returning from an extended break and could be considered the team to beat as the season unfolds. They recently won consecutive games against the reigning WNBA-champion Las Vegas Aces before defeating the Indiana Fever on Saturday night for their fifth straight win.

With Napheesa Collier playing like an MVP, Sue Bird named two reasons why teams want to avoid the Lynx in the upcoming playoffs on her podcast, A Touch More, with her partner, Megan Rapinoe.

"So [Courtney Williams] has been playing really well," Bird said. "This is also what's going to make the Lynx dangerous and why I don't want to see them in the playoffs, the real answer is, I don't want to see them in the playoffs 'cause they're surging... You never want to play who's peaking."

Sue Bird's second reason for the Minnesota Lynx being a dangerous playoff matchup is their well-rounded supporting cast.

"Courtney Williams, that was her day, but you're going to look back on box scores and say, 'Oh, that was Kayla McBride's day. Oh, that was Alanna Smith's day,' everybody at some point is going to have their day and that's what makes them dangerous," Sue Bird stated.

Minnesota Lynx are peaking at the right time, eyeing WNBA championship

Sue Bird pointed out that the Lynx are peaking at the perfect time. With just ten regular season games remaining, Minnesota is tied with Connecticut for the third-highest WNBA title odds.

The Lynx are the second-best defensive team in the WNBA and own the league's second-highest point differential.

Minnesota is favored in eight of its final ten matchups and, with its momentum, has the opportunity to knock off the New York Liberty and Connecticut Sun.

Entering the season's final stretch, the Lynx are just 3.5 games behind the top-seeded New York Liberty.
