Timberwolves final preseason game to be rescheduled to accommodate potential WNBA Finals Game 4 between Lynx and Liberty: Report

The Minnesota Lynx secured their spot in the 2024 WNBA Finals after beating the Connecticut Sun in Game 5 of their semifinal series. They're now set to face the No. 1 seed in the league, the New York Liberty, to win the championship for the fifth time in history.

The series hasn't started yet and is already having effects on their brother team, the Minnesota Timberwolves' schedule. The T-Wolves would need to reschedule their Oct. 18 preseason game against the Denver Nuggets to make room for a potential Game 4 matchup between the Lynx and Liberty, per reporter Howard Megdal.

"NEWS: League source tells @thenexthoops that the scheduled Friday, October 18 preseason game for the Minnesota Timberwolves is being rescheduled to accommodate Game 4 of the WNBA Finals for the Minnesota Lynx. #WNBA"

After losing Games 1 and 4 of this series, the Minnesota Lynx made a statement in Game 5, dominating the Sun from start to finish and getting the 88-77 win to advance to the Finals. They got revenge after the Sun eliminated them from the 2023 postseason in the first round.

Now, the biggest challenge of the season awaits, as the Liberty have looked unstoppable in the playoffs, even taking out the defending champions Las Vegas Aces as visitors.

Can the Minnesota Lynx beat the New York Liberty this season?

Besides another A'ja Wilson versus Breanna Stewart postseason battle, the matchup that most WNBA fans wanted to see was this between Minnesota and New York. They have the reigning Defensive Player of the Year and MVP runner-up Napheesa Collier going against the 2023 MVP Breanna Stewart.

Their co-stars, Courtney Williams and Sabrina Ionescu, are playing at a great level too, sometimes stepping up when the best players are having rough nights.

Other stars and role players like Kayla McBride and Alanna Smith for the Lynx and Jonquel Jones, Leonie Fiebich and Courtney Vandersloot for the Liberty can make this series very interesting. Moreover, the coaching duel between Cheryl Reeve and Sandy Brondello is a must-watch.

Minnesota has a real shot at winning the championship, although the Liberty has played the best basketball in the entire postseason. They have the players, the coach and even the fans to put pressure on the New Yorkers, but they need to bring their A-game every night to add the fifth WNBA championship trophy to the cabinet.

The 2024 WNBA Finals start Thursday at 8 p.m. ET.
