Watch: The exact play leading to Angel Reese's season-ending injury
Angel Reese managed to live up to the expectations set upon her before she arrived in the WNBA. However, as impressive as she has looked in her rookie campaign, it will be cut short after the unfortunate season-ending wrist injury. Her last game of the season was against the LA Sparks last Friday in a 92-78 win for Chicago.
The Sky forward injured her wrist with 3:51 remaining in the fourth quarter. After she stole a loose ball and attempted to go up strong for a lay-up, Sparks guard Crystal Dangerfield tried to get it back and ended up fouling Reese.
Reese landed on her right hand as she tried to retain possession of the basketball. X user Ken Swift shared a video of the incident on the platform.
The injury was also reported by the Chicago Sky on X, formerly known as Twitter. They shared that they could conduct a proper medical evaluation of Reese's injury and decided to rule her out for the remainder of the regular season.
Angel Reese reacted to her season-ending injury
It was an electric first year for Angel Reese. From breaking rebounding records to making her first WNBA All-Star Team, it was a stacked season for the promising forward. She was a prominent rebounding presence for her team and a walking double-double machine.
Reese reacted on X to her current situation.
"What a year," Reese said. "I never would have imagined the last bucket of my rookie season would be a three but maybe that was God saying give them a taste of what they will be seeing more of in year 2 lol. ... I'm filled with emotions right now that I have a season ending injury, but also filled with so much gratitude for what is next. ..."
Aside from her double-double efforts. Reese powered alongside Kamilla Cardoso to bolster the Chicago Sky's rim protection as a twin-tower combo down low. Despite the team's offensive struggles, she always gives the team hope with her putback attempts and crashing for offensive boards.
The Sky are in eighth place in the WNBA standings. They are in a neck-and-neck race with the Atlanta Dream, who also have a 12-22 record. Chicago still has a good chance of securing a spot in the postseason but that's challenging with Reese's unavailability.
In the 34 games she played with the team, Reese put up 13.6 points and 13.1 rebounds.
