MLB expert is impressed by Tigers for their Jack Flaherty-Dodgers deal
The Detroit Tigers had to face a lot of backlash when they decided to trade their star pitcher Jack Flaherty to the Dodgers at the trade deadline in return for two prospects, Trey Sweeney and Thayron Liranzo. However, now their decision is seeming to be a bit fruitful as Sweeney has already been moved to the major league.
Sweeney also hit his first homer in last week's series against the Chicago Cubs. There were a lot of nuances present in this deal, however, it wasn't a loss for the Tigers, as they also acquired players who have the potential to be the real factors of MLB. Even Geoff Pontes of Baseball America is swimming against the tides and is in favor of this trade.
"A switch-hitting catcher with elite power is like a unicorn, but the Tigers may have acquired just that in Liranzo at this year’s trade deadline," Pontes said.
As of now, the Tigers are trying to switch Trey Sweeney with Javy Báez at the shortstop position. Jack Flaherty might get re-signed by the Los Angeles Dodgers with a $61 million deal, more so after his recent performance against the Guardians.
