Where to watch Phoenix Mercury vs Minnesota Lynx? TV details, streaming options and more (Sept. 25) | WNBA Playoffs 2024, Game 2

The Minnesota Lynx look to close out the Phoenix Mercury in Game 2 of their first-round WNBA playoff series at Target Center on Wednesday. While the Lynx may have one foot in the playoff semis, they can’t afford to show any complacency against a team adorned with veteran superstars looking to cause an upset.

Game 1 saw the Lynx come away with a 102-95 victory, a score line that Phoenix coach Nate Tibbetts would be disappointed with, and equally so would Minnesota coach Cheryl Reeve.

The Mercury shot 50.0% from the field (including 51.9% from 3-pointers) and outrebounded the Lynx. However, they missed seven free throws, which proved costly. Phoenix stars Natasha Cloud and Diana Taurasi combined for a strong performance. Cloud scored 33 points with 10 assists and four 3-pointers, while Taurasi contributed 21 points and five triples.

Meanwhile, the Lynx shot 49.3% from the field (including 41.7% from 3-pointers) and made 96.0% of their free throws. Napheesa Collier led Minnesota with a game-high 38 points, along with six rebounds, four assists and a blocked shot. She shot an impressive 11 of 19 from the field and 13 of 14 from the free-throw line.

Phoenix Mercury vs. Minnesota Lynx: Head-to-Head

The Mercury will have to overcome their dismal record against the Lynx, as they have won just once in the last eight games. Additionally, their road record of 9-11 this season pales in comparison to the Lynx's strong home record of 14-6.

Perhaps the Mercury’s only saving grace is the fact they have already beaten the Lynx once this season and nearly pulled off another win with a comeback over the weekend, but ultimately fell short.

Phoenix Mercury vs. Minnesota Lynx: What to expect

The Lynx will be the protagonists on the night. There will be pressure on them to perform and close out the series, especially since they’re at home. Meanwhile, the Mercury’s not been the greatest WNBA team in recent seasons, and even though they’ve made it to the playoffs, they’re still woefully inconsistent.

However, this is a playoff, and it's still an absolute must-win for the Mercury. At times, they’ve shown that they can compete with the rest of the league on their day, and if they put enough of those tonight, then only they could make a deep run this year.
