Seattle Storm vs. Phoenix Mercury preview

Coach Nate Tibbetts’ women head into this game off the back of a frustrating 90-77 defeat against the Washington Mystics, who showed you don’t need to have star players to succeed but a team.

Tibbetts was more annoyed with the performance than the result, in which the attitude and desire of the players were left to be questioned. They fell behind by as many as 25 points and committed 17 turnovers, so he’ll be hoping for a more complete outing tonight.

On the other hand, coach Noelle Quinn’s troops have also been in a similar form. A string of inconsistent results has seen the Storm win two and lose four of their last six games.

They were condemned to another defeat against the New York Liberty in the last game, despite strong performances from Skylar Diggins-Smith (22 points) and Gabby Williams (17 points).

They will need to maintain their own consistency for any chance of finishing in the top four and securing homecourt advantage in the first round of the playoffs. Quinn knows his team has the quality to deliver, so she will be expected to get back to winning ways here.

Seattle Storm vs. Phoenix Mercury prediction

The Storm, despite the loss to the Liberty, are still likely riding a wave of confidence after adding both depth and quality to the squad. One would expect them to do well toward the tail end of the season. However, it’s also hard to ignore the Mercury’s attacking prowess with Kahleah Copper and Diana Taurasi, and they are more than capable of picking up a positive result in this game.
