When do 2024 WNBA Finals start? Closer look at schedule as Lynx book meeting with Liberty

The cast for the 2024 WNBA Finals is complete after the Minnesota Lynx earned the remaining championship spot on Tuesday. They face the New York Liberty in the best-of-five Big Dance, which starts on Oct. 10 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

Minnesota outlasted the Connecticut Sun in their win-or-go home Game 5 semifinal clash in Minneapolis to secure the series win and return to the Finals for the first time since 2017. All-Star Napheesa Collier had a solid double-double of 27 points and 11 rebounds to lead the way for the Lynx.

Wating for them in the championship game are the Liberty, who entered the WNBA Finals after defeating defending champions Las Vegas Aces 3-1 in the semifinal. New York returns to the Finals for the second straight year, lead by All-Stars Breanna Stewart and Sabrina Ionescu.

The 2024 WNBA Finals is a rematch of the Commissioner's Cup title game in June, where Minnesota defeated New York 94-89 to become the fourth winner of in-season WNBA competition.

Minnesota Lynx seek to continue dominance of New York Liberty in WNBA Finals

The Minnesota Lynx have had the number of the New York Liberty in the ongoing WNBA season, something they hope to continue in their best-of-five Finals series. which tips off on Thursday.

The two teams battled three times in the regualr season, with the Lynx claiming the head-to-head matchup 2-1. That doesn't include Minnesota's win over New York in the Commissioner's Cup finals in June, though.

The Lynx took the first game on May 25 at home 84-67 before New York bounced back, winning 76-67 on their turf on July 2. They faced off for the last time on Sept. 15, with Minnesota claiming the away game 88-79.

Napheesa Collier, the reigning defensive player of the year, led the way for the Lynx in the regular season with averages of 20.7 points, 9.7 rebounds, 3.4 assists, 1.9 steals and 1.4 blocks in 34.7 minutes. She continues to dominate in the postseason, too.

Providing ample support are Courtney Williams, Kayla McBride, Bridget Carlton and Alanna Smith.

For New York, it has been the superstar suo of Breanna Stewart and Sabrina Ionescu who have taken charge. Ionescu, in particular, has been top-notch in the postseason, with all-around numbers of 20.7 points, 5.2 rebounds, 5.2 assists and 1.5 steals.

Steadily having their backs are Jonquel Jones, Leonie Fiebich and Courtney Vandersloot.

This year's WNBA Finals will see Minnesota looking to win its fifth league title while New York is out to break through and win its first championship after falling short five times previously.
