5 teams that played in every international event in VCT 2024
The VCT 2024 season was one of the finest in its esports history. Teams and regions that had previously established themselves at the top of the world had a tough time regaining that reputation. Instead, a lot of new faces made their debut on the stage and surprised viewers with their impressive skills.
This year had a total of three international VCT events: Masters Madrid, Masters Shanghai, and the Champions event in Seoul. Throughout the season, only a handful of teams showed up consistently at each of these events. Below is a list of five such teams that played in every international event in VCT 2024.
The teams that appeared at every international event of VCT 2024
1) Team Heretics
Team Heretics competes in the EMEA region of Valorant esports. Before 2024, the organization had only managed to appear at the international event, VCT LOCK//IN. The team would always struggle at the regional events and had a tough time replicating positive results after winning First Strike.
In VCT 2024, Team Heretics showed up with a whole new roster consisting mainly of rookies. They were quickly able to defeat EMEA's best and slowly got the same results against the world's top teams. It became the only team from the region to appear at every international event of the year. Team Heretics finished seventh-eighth, second, and another second at Madrid, Shanghai, and Champions 2024 respectively.
2) Paper Rex
Paper Rex competes in the Pacific region of Valorant esports. The organization has previously managed to secure top-place finishes at some international events. These include the second-place finish at both Masters Copenhagen and Champions 2023. Due to this, Paper Rex quickly gained the reputation of the best team from the Pacific region.
In VCT 2024, Paper Rex struggled quite a lot at the international events. The team started strong with a third-place finish in Masters Madrid and even a trophy win in Pacific Stage 1. However, the team wasn't able to continue this performance and ended up fifth-sixth in Masters Shanghai and an underwhelming 9th-12th in Champions 2024. This season was unfortunately one of the weakest years for the Paper Rex squad.
3) Gen.G
Gen.G competes in the Pacific region of Valorant esports. Besides Paper Rex, this was the only other team from the region to appear at every international event in 2024. The organization that had migrated to the Pacific in 2023 only barely missed out on international events.
However, in VCT 2024, Gen.G ended up becoming one of the strongest teams of the entire season. With a whole new lineup of players, Gen.G destroyed its competition at each event. Not only did this team win two regional titles, but it also won Pacific its first international trophy at Masters Shanghai.
Gen.G was easily the most consistent team of 2024. Besides Shanghai, it also got second place at Madrid. Unfortunately, the team wasn't able to replicate these results at Champions 2024 and ended up with a 9th-12th place finish.
4) EDward Gaming
EDward Gaming competes in the Chinese region of Valorant esports. The organization has always been able to remain at the top of its region and appeared at almost every international event. However, it has had a difficult time at the international events.
VCT 2024 was when EDward Gaming created history for Valorant esports. Despite having very strong performances regionally, it had very underwhelming performances in both Madrid and Shanghai.
However, in Champions 2024, EDward Gaming was able to win its first international trophy. The team only lost one match throughout the entire event. EDward Gaming proved that Chinese Valorant teams had the potential to become the best in the world. Its victory at Champions 2024 has certainly made things very interesting for the future of Valorant esports.
5) FunPlus Phoenix
FunPlus Phoenix also competes in the Chinese region of Valorant esports. The organization migrated to China after franchising and has managed to appear at many international events. FunPlus has always had a tough time keeping up with other teams at international events.
However, in VCT 2024, FunPlus Phoenix was able to get its first international win. This was against FUT Esports during VCT Masters Shanghai. Unfortunately, this was also its only win on the global stage throughout the season.
While the team certainly showed a lot of growth this year, it has a lot of room for improvement in future matches. FunPlus Phoenix ended its season with 7th-8th, 9th-10th, and 13th-16th in Madrid, Shanghai, and Champions 2025 respectively.
