Internet reacts to Valorant player getting text chat banned for saying "gg wp"

Riot Games takes toxicity issues in Valorant seriously. In fact, they take it so seriously that Studio Head Anna Donlon addressed the fans on May 30, 2024, regarding combating toxicity in Valorant. However, it seems that the toxicity reports for X user @ReQzvl have gone south. The player took to their social media page to share an episode of them getting a 7-day ban for typing the words "gg" and "wp" in chat.

The OP shared screenshots between them and Riot Support after they raised the ban issue only to find out that the reason for their ban was a rather innocent text in All Chat. They said:

"So I've gone on valorant to find I have a 7 day ban for text chat abuse.. I go to appeal and get this in response as to why I am text chat banned??"

Quickly, the internet was abuzz with other players expressing their own views and sharing their stories. User @Sidemoee shared their experience about a similar ban saying:

"I got banned for a week too. Valo is such a joke, lol."

Perhaps the incident with the OP isn't an isolated one. Many players were confused as to why the simple texts got the user banned. Terms like 'gg' and 'wp' are commonly used in many games. User @twowen3sin rightfully seemed confused over the whole ordeal.

@heinzmissed felt that Riot Games banning players for vague issues was odd to say the least. While the situation was confusing, for them, it wasn't entertaining at all as they said:

"Fr, man, it ain't even funny now they be banning anything"

On the other hand, @wabakapex hoped that the OP's ban would get extended to a month from a week. To them, it looked like the comments in game chat were sarcastic toward the enemy team which ultimately led to the ban. They said:

"Looks like a blatant use of sarcasm to me As it's valorant, it definitely wasn't a "good game" and definitely not "well played" either (for those that don't know, that's what gg and wp stand for) I hope they extend this to a month"

Finally, @MadlyMaude also felt that the compliments the OP sent via All Chat were sarcastic. To them, the use of sarcasm was very obvious in the screenshots provided by the user in the main post.

Valorant is a game that requires team play, which means that toxic players could easily spell the doom of a certain team. To foster a positive environment, abusing chat with racial slurs or otherwise derogatory remarks are strictly forbidden by Riot Games. Many players get voice or text banned for using inappropriate words.

In fact, Riot Games is also looking forward to implementing hardware bans to ensure that previous offenders can't re-enter the game and spoil the playing experience of the other members of the Valorant community.
