Is Valorant Regen Shield worth buying in-game?

Riot Games has introduced the Valorant Regen Shield under the patch 9.10 update. The addition is the third purchasable armor in the game's buy menu. It has a regeneration pool of 50 HP. Given the multitude of armor options in the shooter, fans may wonder if the new entry is worth buying.

The answer is yes, the Valorant Regen Shield is definitely worth purchasing. It can prove incredibly helpful depending on your economy and position in the game.

Valorant Regen Shield: The perfect buy for low and mid-economy rounds

The Valorant Regen Shield has an interesting concept. Upon purchase, it has a full capacity of 25 HP and an extra 50 HP regenerating pool. After your armor takes up to 25 HP damage, it regenerates back to full capacity over time. This means you can practically have 75 extra hitpoints in total but not all at once.

More interestingly, the Valorant Regen Shield has an absorption capacity of 100% compared to the Light and Heavy Shields, which only absorb about 66% of the damage. Essentially, you are guaranteed to avoid 25 HP damage. This indicates that the Heavy Shields have more HP, while the Regen Shield has a higher absorption rate.

The Valorant Regen Shield only costs 650 Credits in-game. You can buy it during the Pistol rounds and get the upper hand on opponents without any shields or even over those with Light Shields on. You can also purchase it during mid-economy rounds when your enemies are likely to use SMGs or the Marshall since you will easily be able to recover from the damage done.

The Regen Shield is perhaps the best option for Duelists who can dip in and out of action. As Yoru, Jett, or Reyna, you can easily take your frag, absorb some damage, and return to safety allowing your Regen Shield to recover. Then, you can re-engage with an extra 25 HP on the armor. It may not seem like much, but it can make a big difference, allowing you to live with some health still left.

The big question is, is it better to buy the Regen Shield over the Heavy Shields? The answer is no because enemies holding an Outlaw can still easily defeat you if you have the Regen Sheild on. The same applies to a Phantom's mid-range headshot. In such cases, you would have no chance without the Heavy Shields.

However, in most other cases where your economy or the enemy's is suffering, buying the Regen Shield is certainly a good choice.
