Gen.G are your VCT Pacific Stage 2 champions
Gen.G Esports have emerged as the VCT Pacific Stage 2 champions after defeating DRX. The matchup went on for four maps including Haven, Bind, Lotus, and Icebox. DRX could only secure the very first map (Haven) and then Gen.G recorded three wins in a row to come out on top on July 21, 2024. Regardless, both the teams will advance into Champions Seoul which commences on August 1.
DRX was coming off a win over Paper Rex on July 20, 2024. Meanwhile, Gen.G had last played on July 14, 2024, during VCT Pacific Stage 2. This article will dive into the finals and how it all unfolded.
Gen.G dominated DRX for a decisive win at VCT Pacific Stage 2 finals
Gen.G clearly had a slow start in the VCT Pacific Stage 2 finals. The team lost their first nine rounds to DRX on Haven. They did collect two wins during DRX's attacking half but the score was still at 10-2. In the same matchup, DRX would go on to collect three more rounds during the next half and get a steep victory on Haven. The final score was 13-6.
However, Gen.G clearly intended that to be DRX's last win. Map 2 was Bind where the two teams came pretty close together as the match progressed. In the first half, the Masters Shanghai winners clinched seven rounds but their opponents would soon respond by winning seven of their own in the next half.
The VCT Pacific Stage 2 match went into overtime on Bind. However, Gen.G would go on to close the map on an 18-16 scoreline. Munchkin was on top of the frag charts as he collected 34 frags while playing on Viper. Meanwhile, the rest of the team wasn't far behind with t3xture, Karon, and Meteor collecting 27 kills each.
Lotus was yet again a close map where the teams went into overtime as well. DRX Foxy9 put up an excellent performance on Breach but in the end, Gen.G managed to overwhelm the team and win with a 14-12 scoreline.
Finally, it came down to Icebox. It was crucial for DRX to win this, as it would have resulted in the overall victory of Gen.G, which is, unfortunately for DRX, exactly what happened. It was a rather decisive win ending on a 13-6 scoreline. Standout performances included Meteor, Munchkin, and Karon as well as MaKo and Flashback from DRX.
This VCT Pacific Stage 2 final match was filled with highlights from support players. The region is certainly filled with teams that have outstanding util usage as well as powerful fragging potential.
Now, Paper Rex, Gen.G, DRX, and Talon Esports will head into Champions Seoul for the coveted Valorant Champions trophy.
