"I don't think today was their best day"- DRX's MaKo after their win against Fnatic in Valorant Champions 2024 (Exclusive)
Valorant Champions 2024 has been one of the more exciting events of this season. The sixteen teams have been trying their best in the Group Stage to qualify for the Playoffs. Only eight teams will be making it to the next stage.
Day 5 closed with a matchup between Pacific's number two seed, DRX, and EMEA's number one seed, Fnatic. The best-of-three (Bo3) was expected to be a close one but got over rather quickly. DRX was able to barely close out the first map and then dominated the second to win the series with a 2-0 scoreline.
During the post-match conference, Sportskeeda Esports got the opportunity to talk to DRX's in-game leader (IGL), MaKo, who said:
"I don't think today was their best day"
DRX's MaKo talks about his IGLing against Fnatic's Boaster in Valorant Champions 2024
DRX has always been among the top teams in VCT. However, the 2024 season has seen them struggle quite a bit. The squad had great performances in the regional events but ended up missing out on both Masters events. Finally, in Stage 2, they were able to qualify for their first international event of the year, Valorant Champions 2024.
In their match against Fnatic, DRX went on to surprise many people. While the first map, Abyss, could have been won by anyone, the second map, Lotus, was where they absolutely dominated Fnatic. In fact, this was the first time that DRX was able to get a clean 2-0 win against the EMEA team.
Fnatic and DRX have faced each other several times before. However, with the new roster changes in DRX, this was the first time MaKo was facing them as an IGL. So, Sportskeeda Esports asked him how the experience was for him calling shots against an experienced and renowned IGL like Boaster in today's match. Here's what he had to say:
" I don't think today was their best day. I think today was more of their off day. So I will have to see how Boaster's IGLing matches up with mine and how mine matches up with Boaster's in Playoffs. But today I wasn't really able to see the style of IGLing that Boaster usually brings to the game."
After this win, DRX will be making their way to the Playoffs stage of this event. Meanwhile, Fnatic will head to the lower brackets of the Group Stage. Here, they will face off against the winner of Bilibili Gaming vs KRÜ Esports for their spot in the tournament.
