"They were able to outlast us"- G2 Esports' valyn after getting eliminated by Team Heretics in VCT Masters Shanghai (Exclusive)
VCT Masters Shanghai has come down to its final match of the event. The competition started with a total of 12 teams that went through two long stages. Now, only one Bo5 (Best-of-five) separates the remaining teams from getting their hands on the Masters trophy.
Day 12 had a single match scheduled between Americas' G2 Esports and EMEA's Team Heretics. The Bo5 series ended rather quickly as Team Heretics just destroyed G2 Esports. They were able to walk away with a 3-0 win and only lost a total of 16 rounds in the entire series.
At the post-match conference, Sportskeeda Esports' Sneh Jadhav got the chance to talk to G2 Esports' in-game leader (IGL), valyn, during which he said:
"They were able to outlast us."
G2 Esports' valyn talks about their crushing defeat against Team Heretics in VCT Masters Shanghai
G2 Esports has been quite the surprise in VCT Masters Shanghai. The team was doubted by many coming into the international event but continued to take down some of the tougher opponents like Paper Rex and T1. In fact, they had already made insane comebacks and defeated Team Heretics twice in this event.
That said, in the lower finals matchup of VCT Masters Shanghai, G2 Esports faced off against Team Heretics for the third time. However, this time, G2 was unable to stop them. Heretics started off strong and continued their momentum from previous matches until the end of this series. They won the maps with 13-2, 13-6 and a 13-8 scoreline.
During the post-match conference of VCT Masters Shanghai, Sportskeeda Esports approached G2 Esports' valyn to ask him about how his experience was IGLing against Team Heretics who continued to win every duel and just seemed to be ready for everything. Here's what he said:
"The game plan never really changed no matter what. Even if they're hitting more shots. They were on fire today. We could definitely feel it in the server in terms of game plan or how I call everything kind of stays the same. Maybe you want to play a bit more packed up just because they're hitting the individual shots so you have to try to get the trades going more. Play more like less spread maybe a bit more obvious but you're more together is one approach. And just being more explosive to try to counteract their you know their shots."
He added further:
"I would say we tried to do that today and we were successful at points but they were able to outlast us and yeah honestly that's about it. They were just able to outlast. We had our key moments, we had our chances but when it came down to maybe the 2v2s, 3v3s, they were able to close more and they were clutching more so. I would say their momentum throughout the last series and shots today were just kind of too much for us today."
With this defeat, G2 Esports was eliminated from VCT Masters Shanghai. They will end their tournament run with a total of four wins and two losses.
