"We were too close sighted"- DRX's BuZz after their loss against Sentinels in Valorant Champions 2024 (Exclusive)
Valorant Champions 2024 has finally commenced with its next phase. Out of the sixteen starting teams, only eight have made it to the Playoffs stage. These teams will now be competing in a double-elimination format where each match will take them a step closer to the champions trophy.
Day 11 opened with a match between Pacific's number two seed, DRX, and America's number four seed, Sentinels. The BO3 (Best-of-three) was expected to be a close one after an overtime on the first map, Sunset. However, Sentinels were able to effortlessly win the second map, Haven, and take the series with a clean 2-0 score line.
In the post-match conference, Sportskeeda Esports' Sneh Jadhav got a chance to talk to DRX's BuZz during which he said:
"We were too close sighted"
DRX's BuZz talks about their shortcomings against Sentinels in Valorant Champions 2024
DRX has been through a rather difficult time in the 2024 season. The team was unable to qualify for any Masters event despite having great regional performances. However, Valorant Champions 2024 has certainly unlocked their potential once again.
After a phenomenal run in the Group Stage, DRX was expected to face stiff competition in their matchup against Sentinels. The two teams had previously faced each other during the OFF//SEASON event, AfreecaTV Valorant League (AVL). However, back then, the DRX roster consisted of different players.
The BO3 series remained close on the first map, Sunset but ended up being a lot more one-sided on the second map, Haven. Sportskeeda Esports approached DRX's BuZz to ask him how a different matchup against Sentinels felt today as compared to the AVL and where he thought his team might have lacked or let things slip away in the series. Here's what he said:
"It's been a long time since the AVL. And we have a different roster, we have different map pool. Those two matches today and AVL matches, they are completely different games. And also that was during the OFF//SEASON. It's not really an official LAN so AVL cannot really be compared to how the stakes were really high today."
He further added:
"Of course there are a lot of aspects that kind of made it slip away from us but I think in general we were too close sighted. We weren't able to look at the map with a bigger perspective and there were a lot of moments where we weren't able to take advantage of the opportunities we had in the server."
With this defeat, DRX will make their way to the lower brackets of the Playoffs stage. Their next match will be an elimination one as they will be playing for their tournament lives.
