What is the new Ping system in Valorant? Everything you need to know

Riot Games has made significant changes to the Ping system in Valorant. Starting with patch 9.11, smokes will block pings completely. This means that you won't be able to ping the Spike's location through smoke, making it difficult to spam the enemy accurately. Furthermore, pings placed on the map won't show up in the game's world. They will only be visible on your map, making it even more difficult to pinpoint an exact location.

These are just a few of the significant changes made in the upcoming patch. This article will dive deeper into the brand-new Ping system in Valorant.

New Ping system in Valorant: Here's everything you need to know

The new Ping system was teased by Riot Games on December 6, 2024. Soon after, on December 10, the notes for the upcoming Valorant patch 9.11 were released which detailed the changes.

As mentioned earlier, smokes will now completely block pings in Valorant. So, if you attempt to ping an object through the smoke, your marker will simply stop at the border of the smoke cloud and not go through.

In simpler words, ping markers will interact with smokes as if they're solid walls in the game world. To add to it, pings made on the map will not manifest as physical markers in the game world. Riot Games has made it clear that they want the Ping system in Valorant to be used only as a communication tool and not to gain an advantage in combat.

New ping visuals and audio changes have also been implemented so that players can differentiate between different kinds of pings made on the map. Riot Games has also promised to enable map pings to show up in the world during custom games. However, this update will be released in a future patch, following which lineups will be easier to practice.

Valorant patch 9.11 does not have a fixed release date yet but is expected to drop anywhere between December 10 to December 12, 2024. The new update also brings major nerfs for Neon and some buffs for the latest Sentinel, Vyse. This will be the very last Valorant patch of the year 2024.
