APF win first Nepal national women's volleyball tournament
Armed Police Force (APF) won the first national open women´s volleyball tournament after they beat New Diamond Sports Club 3-2 in the final held at Kathmandu.
In the competitive final, New Diamond Sports Club took the first set 26-24 but APF took the second set 25-11 to level the match.
New Diamond Sports Club again took the lead as they took the third set 25-22 and APF again levelled the match by taking the fourth set 25-22 to force a deciding set. It was APF’s day as they took the final set 15-12 to win the title.
Saraswati Chaudhary of APF was adjudged the best player of the tournament. Saraswati was awarded a scooter — the second of her career. The 17-year-old from far-western part of Nepal joined the APF six months ago.
APF also bagged a cash prize of NRs 250,000 and while runner-up New Diamond received NRs 125,000 in cash.
Meanwhile, traditional powerhouse of Nepalese volleyball, Nepal Police Club, which is going through a rough patch, lost 25-18, 28-26, 25-11 in straight sets against Western Region in the third-place playoff. Western Region received a cash prize of NRs 50,000.
