Australia beat China to qualify for Olympic volleyball
Tokyo, June 10 (IANS)-
Australia qualified Sunday for the London Olympic Games men’s volleyball competition, beating China 3-0 in the qualifying tournament here.
Australia improved their record to five wins and two losses, after the 25-12, 25-20, 25-13 victory to collect 15 points, an unsinkable lead over the Asian opponents, Xinhua reports.
The winners and the best-placed Asian team among the rest of the eight-team tournament qualify for the 2012 London Games.
Serbia won the tournament after defeating Venezuela 25-14, 25-13, 25-23 with seven wins.
Serbia and Australia join Russia, Poland, Brazil, Italy, Tunisia, the United States, Argentina and Britain as the contenders. Two more teams will advance from tournaments in Germany and Bulgaria to form up a 12-team finals in London in July.
