Bernardinho to lead Brazil men's volleyball team until Rio 2016
Rio de Janeiro, Aug 15 (IANS) Brazil’s volleyball confederation (CBV) has said the national men’s team coach Bernardinho will keep his job until the 2016 Rio Olympics.
Bernardinho, who has held the position since 2000, led the team to its second consecutive Olympic silver medal at the London Olympics, reports Xinhua.
Reports in Brazil suggested the 2-3 loss to Russia in Saturday’s final could have been his last match.
“Bernardinho is going to stay,” CBV president Ary Graca said Tuesday. “We have already discussed it and it’s been agreed.”
The 52-year-old, who also represented his country as a player in the 1980s, led Brazil to the gold medal at the 2004 Athens Olympics.
He had been the national women’s team coach for seven years before taking the reins of the men’s team following the 2000 Sydney Games.
