FIVB World U21 Championships: India beat China 3-0, through to round of 16
India defeated China at the FIVB Volleyball Men’s U21 World Championship in Ankara, Turkey. In their final Pool A match India hammered neighbours China 3-0 (25-21, 25-23, 25-18).
With 9 points from three wins in the pool, India have ensured a safe passage to the Round of 16. On the other hand, China’s fate will depend on the outcome of Morocco-Egypt match. China will hope that Morocco, who are pointless, defeat their fellow African nation Egypt, who are on two points.
Coming back to the match, the first set was relatively even till the third technical time-out, after which India surged away and won the set by 25-21. In the second set, China at one stage had a massive lead as they were leading 15-10. But India came back strongly to finish the set 25-23 and thus double their advantage. In what turned out to be the third and final set, India dominated the set from start to finish, maintaining a constant lead of 4-5 points and with China looking more vulnerable than ever, India seized the moment to win the set 25-18 and thus finish off the match in three straight sets.
Hosts Turkey topped the group with 11 points, while India finishes second with nine points.
