He also shared his experience representing India in the Asian Championships and discussed the challenges of balancing a demanding sports career with his personal life.
Here’s a closer look at his journey and insights:
Q: How did you get into Volleyball, and who supported you during your early days?
A: I’ve been interested in Volleyball since the very beginning. Playing in my village was something I really enjoyed. Later, I got the chance to play for SRM, where I trained under coach Krishnamurthy. It was a huge turning point for me.
Q: How important is the Prime Volleyball League for the growth of the sport in India?
A: The Prime Volleyball League has been a game-changer. International players and coaches come here, and we get a firsthand experience of how they work and what techniques they use. It gives us the exposure we need to be prepared for the next level.
Q: Tell us about your coach who guided you early in your career.
A: Back when I started, I was playing Volleyball locally, and I didn’t know much about the sport professionally. But once I joined SRM, things changed. I began to understand the game better, and with Krishnamurthy sir’s guidance, I’ve been able to reach this level.
Q: How did it feel to represent India at the Asian Championships in Iran?
A: It was my first time representing India, and I was over the moon. Competing against international players taught me so much. It was a priceless learning experience.
Q: How close do you think the Indian volleyball team is to making it to the Olympics?
A: Thanks to the Prime Volleyball League, many players are now getting the attention they deserve. If we continue to improve our ranking and maintain our performance, I believe we’ll be competing in the Olympics soon.
Q: How challenging has it been to play Volleyball while being away from family for so long?
A: It’s definitely tough to be away from family. We’re constantly traveling for matches, and I also have a job with the Indian Army. But whenever I get a break, I go home and spend time with them. Winning games and trophies gives us that sense of celebration, and that’s what keeps us going.
