Haryana Police to give Rs. 51 lakh to Yogeshwar Dutt

Chandigarh, Aug 23 - Haryana Police will give a cash reward of Rs.51 lakh to wrestler Yogeshwar Dutt who recently won a bronze medal at the London Olympics in the 60kg freestyle category, Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda announced on Thursday.

Six other players from Haryana, who like Yogeshwar are members of Haryana Police, will also be given Rs.11 lakh each for their achievements and participation in the London Olympics, Hooda said.

The chief minister made the announcement here on Thursday at a function organised by Haryana Police to honour its athletes who participated in the Summer Games.

Hooda said the Haryana Police cash reward money would be in addition to the reward announced by the state government. Yogeshwar will get Rs.1 crore from the Haryana government.

The other six players to get the cash rewards are boxers Vijender Singh, Vikas Krishan and Jai Bhagwan, hockey players Sardara Singh and Sandeep Singh, and athlete Seema Antil.

Hooda said that cars would also be gifted to all players of Haryana who participated in the Games.

Of the Indian contingent of 81 athletes, 18 players were from Haryana.

The state government will organise a special function at Gohana town on Sunday to honour the four Olympic medal winners and participants with Haryana connection.

Besides Yogeshwar, other medal winners from Haryana are wrestler Sushil Kumar (silver medal) and bronze medallists Saina Nehwal (badminton) and Gagan Narang (shooting).
