Narsingh Yadav has been framed, perpetrators will be exposed: WFI President
As the word on wrestler Narsingh Yadav’s failed dope test spread like wildfire on Sunday, the uproar caused by the issue has had the entire nation divided on whether it was the correct decision by the federation to pick him for the Rio Olympics. A doping violation, if proven. will see India’s quota snatched and no wrestler will be taking part in the 74 kg Men’s Freestyle Wrestling at Rio.
Right from the moment the news of his samples testing positive was brought to the fore, Narsingh has denied his involvement in any such immoral act and hinted at an attempted sabotage by his adversaries.
At this juncture, Mr Brij Bhushan Shaan Singh, President of the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) has come forward to lend his support to the 26-year-old Varanasi-born. Speaking to India Today, he has revealed that he is certain of the fact that the gold medallist from 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth has been framed:
“I am under a lot of pressure right now. The news of Narsingh having failed the test has come as a huge shock for us. But I believe Narsingh is an innocent guy. He can't do it. He has been tested so many times in the past as well but had never failed any test. I am sure it's a conspiracy. The substances found in his sample are the same that were found in that of his roommate Sandeep at the SAI centre in Sonepat.”

The National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) had conducted two tests on Narsingh, one on June 25th and the next one on 5th July, both of which were readily taken by the Arjuna Award winning wrestler. Since the banned steroid methandienone was detected in his roommate Sandeep Yadav’s sample too, it is quite likely that someone had tampered with their food.
“I even got to know that some officials at the SAI centre were also involved in it. In the coming days, some big names will be exposed. A lot of people are against him after he made the Rio cut. We are trying to find out who has done it and on whose instructions it was done.”, Mr Singh further added.
