Karnataka announces a strong contingent for Senior National Wrestling Championship 2024
The Karnataka Wrestling Association has announced a formidable contingent for the upcoming Senior National Wrestling Championship 2024, which is set to be held in Bengaluru. The much-anticipated competition will be held at the Koramangala Indoor Stadium from December 6 to December 8.
The hosts, Karnataka, will be represented across three disciplines; men’s freestyle, men’s Greco Roman and women’s freestyle. Each category will see ten wrestlers participating with each wrestler competing in a different weight class.
President of the Karnataka Wrestling Association (KWA) Bellippady Gunaranjan Shetty is confident in the squad the state is putting forward.
"We have some strong medal contenders in our squad and this championship will also be a great learning experience for our grapplers. Hosting the Senior National Wrestling Championship in our home state for the first time adds to the significance, and we are excited to show the nation what our grapplers can do,” said Shetty.
The likes of Gopal Koli, Shweta Sanju and Mahesh P Gouda are some of the big names from the state to be seen in action. While Gopal (86kg) and Mahesh (65kg) will compete in the men’s freestyle, the men’s Greco Roman will see talented grapplers Koravara Sanjeevana (63kg) and Kamesh Mahadev Patil (130kg).
The women’s freestyle will feature the likes of Shweta (50kg), Prinsita Pedru Siddi (65kg) and Bhagavathi Jnayanadev Gondali (72kg) among others.
Karnataka gears up to host the state’s first-ever Senior National Wrestling Championship
The 2024 Senior National Wrestling Championship marks the competition’s debut in the state of Karnataka. The preparations are thus in full swing as the championship shall prove to be a monumental occasion in growing the sport in the southern state.
Over 1,000 wrestlers and officials from all over India will be assembling in Bengaluru. The marquee event will feature some of the biggest wrestling names in India.
The likes of Paris Olympics bronze medalist, Aman Sehrawat and U20 World Wrestling Champion, Antim Panghal, will showcase their skills at the event. The 2019 World Championship silver medal winner Deepak Punia and Olympian Sonam Malik will also be in action.
