What's the story?

On Saturday, an FIR has been lodged against Sushil Kumar and his supporters after their brawl with the supporters of Parveen Rana at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium.

In case you didn't know...

The double Olympic medalist came back on the international scene after three years and won the gold at Commonwealth Championship held in December in Johannesburg, South Africa. Earlier in the year, Sushil got consecutive walkovers at the national wrestling championship, which he won.

The heart of the matter

An FIR has been lodged reportedly by Naveen Rana, Parveen Rana's elder brother against Sushil Kumar and their supporters. The FIR was registered under the sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) and 341 (wrongful restraint) of the IPC.

These incidents took place at the trials taking place for the Commonwealth Games scheduled to take place in April 2018 in Gold Coast, Australia. The incident created havoc inside the stadium premises with several of the supporters getting heavily injured. Punches were landed by some while others resorted to striking members of the opposite group with chairs.

Allegedly, Rana said that he was given death threats by Sushil's supporters and was told not to participate in the upcoming Pro Wrestling League.

What next?

The former World Champion will be making his debut in the Pro Wrestling League starting January 9, 2018. He would also be hoping to use the tournament as the perfect training ground for the 2018 Common Wealth Games scheduled to take place in April.

Sushil would be hoping to become the first Indian wrestler to win three consecutive golds at the Commonwealth Games after winning in Delhi 2010 and in Glasgow 2014.

Sportskeeda's take

Sushil Kumar condemned the incident as soon as the brawl calmed down and brought it to his fans' notice that he fights not against an individual person but for his nation.
