Sushil Kumar rejects Rs. 50 lac liquor ad

Olympics Day 16 - Wrestling

LONDON, ENGLAND – AUGUST 12: Gold medallist Tatsuhiro Yonemitsu (2nd L) of Japan, silver medallist Sushil Kumar (L) of India, bronze medallists Akzhurek Tanatarov of Kazakhstan and Livan Lopez Azcuy (R) of Cuba celebrate with their medals during the medal ceremony

London Olympics silver medalist Sushil Kumar has rejected a whopping Rs. 50 lac offer to feature in an advertisement for a liquor brand.

True to the tradition he has been brought up in, Sushil Kumar rejected the offer as he felt it would send a wrong message to the youth of the country.

Direct liquor advertising is banned but surrogate ads, which promote liquor in the guise of other products are often run by liquor companies. Sushil however refused to be linked to a liquor brand, directly or indirectly.

Sushil is not the only one to have rejected such an offer, and is actually in good company when it comes to such matters, as only a couple of years ago Sachin Tendulkar also refused an incredible Rs. 20 crore offer from a liquor brand.
