Sushil Kumar, Yogeshwar Dutt make stunning comeback

India’s top wrestlers Sushil Kumar and Yogeshwar Dutt won medals at the two-day international wrestling tournament in Sassari, Italy.

This win should give the duo much needed confidence ahead of the Commonwealth games in Glasgow in July.

Both wrestlers are making a comeback from injuries, and took to the ring for the first time since the London Olympics in 2012.

Yogeshwar won gold in the 66 kg category while Sushil had to be content with silver in the 74 Kg category.

Indians managed to win medals in the other weight categories as well. Bajrang (61 Kg) and Satywart Kadian (97Kg) won a silver medal each while Krishna kumar clinched bronze in the 120 Kg category.

Indian women did well as Shilpi Sheoran and Jyoti won bronze in the 55 Kg and 75 Kg weight categories respectively.

"The exposure was required to assess the strengths and weaknesses of the wrestlers. Both Sushil and Yogeshwar's performances were satisfactory. Sushil's new weight category (74kg) is the tougher compared to other categories. Wrestlers from 66kg and 74 kg have to compete in one weight division," Wrestling Federation of India's secretary general Raj Singh, who is also India's chef-de-mission for Glasgow Commonwealth Games, said.

"Wrestlers from Europe and Japan had participated in Italy, making it tougher for Sushil. Sushil decided to participate in 74 kg because CWG and Olympics have this category," Singh said.

The world body had dropped the 60 Kg and 66 Kg categories from its programme last year.

Sushil had competed in 66kg category at the London Olympics while Yogeshwar had fought in 60kg category.
