14-time world champion to return & win title; swerve due to Cody Rhodes' injury? 4 Twists that are possible in WWE before the end of 2024
Following Saturday Night's Main Event, WWE already seems to gearing up for 2025. However, there are still a few live episodes of RAW and SmackDown left, where a lot could happen before the red brand goes to Netflix.
WWE can pack these shows with some huge surprises, including a few title changes. A few returns are possible too, while we might witness the fallout of Cody Rhodes and Kevin Owens' post-show angle from this past Saturday.
So, let's have a look at four huge twists that could happen before the end of 2024.
#1. Jey Uso could return on RAW
Jey Uso was last seen on WWE television on the RAW after Survivor Series, where he was attacked backstage. While not revealed instantly, we later learned that Drew McIntyre was the culprit. He is on the hunt, targeting every member of the OG Bloodline, having defeated Sami Zayn at Saturday Night's Main Event.
Fresh off his win, and taking out Jimmy Uso on SmackDown, McIntyre may face The YEET Master sooner rather than later. Jey could return to WWE as soon as tonight's episode of RAW, where he may challenge the Scotsman to a match. It's an interesting next chapter to The Bloodline Hunter's journey back to Roman Reigns.
#2. Damian Priest might help The War Raiders win the World Tag Team Championship
With The Judgment Day banned from ringside, The War Raiders will feel they can win the World Tag Team Championship on RAW. This is a tough task for Finn Balor and JD McDonagh, whose previous title defenses have all featured heavy shenanigans.
Their loss could come via interference as well, with Damian Priest causing the title change. He still needs to get revenge on Balor for costing him the World Heavyweight Championship twice, setting up the final match of their feud in a couple of weeks.
#3. Kevin Owens could declare himself the real WWE Champion
After piledriving Cody Rhodes and stealing the Winged Eagle WWE Championship, Kevin Owens needs to become SmackDown's top guy while The American Nightmare is off television. KO could do that by declaring himself the real champion, based on what happened during his match with Rhodes.
Owens got the visual pinfall at Saturday Night's Main Event and only lost after taking a Cross Rhodes on a chair, so it makes sense for him to force the issue. And based on what happened with Triple H afterward, KO can use the title he stole to stick it to management. That's the sort of thing a deluded heel like him would do, especially since there is a legitimate gripe.
Cody Rhodes would eventually return in 2025 and set up one final match against Kevin Owens, with the winner holding both WWE Title belts.
#4. Charlotte Flair could return and immediately dethrone Nia Jax
With reports suggesting Charlotte Flair's return is imminent, The Queen could be back before the end of the year. The last SmackDown of 2024 might be where it happens, with it being over a year since we last saw Flair. After all, Nia Jax needs a new challenger for her WWE Women's Championship.
She can issue an open challenge for the title before immediately losing it to Charlotte, who would become a 15-time world champion. It might shoot up interest in the female main event scene on SmackDown, following months of slow-moving tension between Jax and Tiffany Stratton.
The young star may be better off targeting Charlotte Flair, even if months have been built into her storyline with Nia Jax. Furthermore, it would be an interesting parallel to two years ago, when The Queen returned and immediately dethroned Ronda Rousey. Flair could eventually put Stratton over following the latter's Money in the Bank cash-in.
