3 instances that prove John Cena's presence is a curse for the Money In The Bank winner
'The Cenation Leader' isn't one to shy away from a challenge. His "Never Give Up' tagline has inspired many fans out there and he is a role model for the kids who are a part of the WWE Universe.
Love him or hate him, nobody can deny the fact that he has been entertaining us ever since he won the US Title from The Big Show.
He has always managed to turn things around for himself and has been portrayed as a superhero in the WWE.
But when it comes to the Money In The Bank briefcase, he can be called a villain. There have been only three occasions in the history of WWE in which a MITB winner has lost a cash-in match and John Cena has played a role in each of those matches.
Let's revisit these moments which will prove that he is a curse for the MITB winner.
#3 John Cena cashes in against CM Punk
In the Money In The Bank PPV in 2012, John Cena won his first ever MITB ladder match. He used the hanging briefcase to block a KO punch from The Big Show which resulted in the handle breaking away from the briefcase which was in Cena's hands.
The following night on Raw, Cena came out with the briefcase and broke the trend of cashing in on a beaten down champion by challenging the then WWE Champion, CM Punk to a match on the next episode of Raw.
With the match set to take place at Raw 1000, both men stood toe to toe with each other in the ring. During an entertaining bout, Punk had Cena set up for a GTS but Cena scurried off of his back and knocked out the referee in the process. Cena then connected with an AA but there was no referee to make the three count.
In all this confusion, Big Show ran down to the ring and speared Cena and also hit him with the KO Punch. Punk got the referee back to the ring to count to three but Cena kicked out. Punk was furious and set Cena up for the GTS one more time which Cena countered and he locked Punk in the STF. When Big Show saw this, he ran back to the ring and broke the hold which resulted in Cena winning via disqualification.
Since the Title cannot change hands via disqualification, John Cena became the first Superstar to unsuccessfully cash in the MITB contract.
