3 Money in the Bank facts Drew McIntyre wants WWE fans to forget
WWE will host the Money in the Bank Premium Live Event from the Scotiabank Arena in Toronto, Canada this Saturday. The show will feature many big names such as Jey Uso, Sami Zayn, and Cody Rhodes.
One performer who has grabbed many headlines in the WWE for the majority of 2024 is Drew McIntyre. The former WWE Champion has gone over a drastic persona change in which he has decided to blame the fans and other stars for his failures.
Since WrestleMania 40, the Scotsman has had many external factors hindering him from achieving his goals. However, McIntyre is looking to get back into the championship picture this weekend when he enters the Men's Money in the Bank Ladder Match.
However, the event and the stipulation as a whole have not been too friendly to him over the years. Therefore we are going to take a look at three Money in the Bank moments that Drew McIntyre will want the fans to forget about.
#3. Drew McIntyre has never unhooked the MITB briefcase
During his WWE career, Drew McIntyre has enjoyed great success. From winning the Royal Rumble to holding World Titles, he has done it all. However, one match that he has not been able to figure out is the Money in the Bank Ladder Match.
The Scottish Warrior will enter the match for the sixth time this weekend. His first appearance in the bout came in 2010 at WrestleMania 26 and then again a few months later at the first Money in the Bank Premium Live Event. The former WWE Champion then went on a string of failures in the match when he competed in the 2019, 2021, and 2022 editions of the contest.
Despite being one of the most experienced stars heading into the match this weekend, Drew's recent run of bad luck as well as his various misfortunes in the match itself may be weighing heavily on his mind.
#2. Drew McIntyre is not a big fan of a post-match cash in
After winning the career-altering briefcase, the victorious superstar has the opportunity to cash it in at any time on the champion of their choosing for up to a year. Having been a multi-time World Champion, Drew McIntyre is unfortunately all too familiar with being on the receiving end of a cash in.
Firstly in 2021 at Elimination Chamber, after Bobby Lashley attacked the Scottish star, the then Mr. Money in the Bank The Miz went down to the ring to pick up the pieces and became the new WWE Champion.
The most recent cash in however was even more heartbreaking for Drew. After months of pursuing the World Heavyweight Championship, he finally managed to defeat Seth Rollins on Night 2 of WrestleMania 40. Following the match though, McIntyre started to mock his injured rival CM Punk, leading to The Second City Saint attacking a fatigued Scottish Warrior.
This assault then resulted in Senor Money in the Bank Damian Priest coming down the aisle and winning the World Heavyweight Championship just mere moments after McIntyre had won the belt himself.
#1. His arch-rival in WWE has a storied history in the Money in the Bank Ladder Match
While Drew McIntyre has been on the receiving end of multiple cash ins, his rival, CM Punk, has had more success as the individual going for gold.
The Chicago native holds the record of being the only superstar to win two consecutive Money in the Bank Ladder Matches. He first won the case at WrestleMania 24 in 2008 and then a year later at 'Mania 25.
Punk's first cash in however was fairly divisive in the locker room at the time, as WWE's current Executive Director Bruce Prichard revealed on his Something to Wrestling With podcast.
"It was controversial because I don’t think that Punk had a lot of people in the locker room that were really pro-Punk. He’s a polarizing figure. I thought, if he’s that polarizing in the locker room then, what’s the general audience feel about him? And I really felt the general audience was intrigued. He was different and there was something about Punk, especially at that time… it was a groundswell."
Despite the short-lived nature of Punk's first cash in and World Title reign, his second cash in put him on the map. The Best in the World would cash in on the fan-favorite Jeff Hardy at Extreme Rules 2009 to become the World Heavyweight Champion. This made CM Punk a main event heel superstar
