3 reasons why Bayley must lose in the semifinals of the Women's US title tournament on WWE SmackDown tonight
Tonight is a huge night for The Role Model, Bayley. Having won almost everything WWE has to offer, the 35-year-old looks to further her legacy tonight. Taking on Chelsea Green, she hopes to advance to the finals of the Women's US Championship tournament.
It would be a huge moment for Bayley, as she would have a shot at becoming the inaugural Women's US Champion. And, looking at the bracket, she is clearly the favorite. Just off her resume alone, the eight-time WWE champion is miles ahead of the likes of Green, Michin, and Tiffany Stratton.
That being said, there is a case to be made for Bayley not to advance tonight. Now, on paper, this seems unfathomable. But, here are three reasons why she should lose in the semifinals of the tournament.
#3. Bayley has already had an exceptional year
2024 has been what some might describe as a career year for Bayley. It all started at the Royal Rumble, where she not only won but cemented her place in history by breaking the record for the longest time in the women's match. What's more, she went on to win the WWE Women's Championship in an epic match with IYO SKY on the Grandest Stage of them All at WrestleMania 40.
While winning the Women's US Championship would be a milestone, it is not something she needs right now, especially given the current storyline. After all, she is still a suspect in the case of 'Who attacked Jade Cargill?'. So, adding the title to the mix would only serve to complicate the matter even further.
#2. Chelsea Green deserves to have the spotlight at Saturday Night's Main Event
The final of the Women's US Championship tournament is scheduled to take place at Saturday Night's Main Event, and with it comes the spotlight. Outside of the big stage, the winner will also become the inaugural champion, and that is something Chelsea Green, Bayley's opponent tonight deserves.
The Hot Mess was one of the favorites to win Money in the Bank, but Tiffany Stratton beat her to it. Moreover, the fans themselves want to see Green become the first-ever Women's US Champion. So, perhaps it would be better if The Role Model fell at the hands of the 33-year-old at least this time around.
#1. The Women's US Championship is meant to propel new stars to the next level
One of the reasons WWE introduced the Women's US Championship is because of the level the Women's Divison has reached. Gone are the days when a world title was all the women could compete for. Now, with the talent in the division overflowing as it is, more opportunities are a must, and hence, a secondary title was born.
With that in mind, it also serves as a way to promote and propel new stars, or stars that are performing at a high level, but aren't in the world title picture. Bayley is a talent that will likely always and forever be in contention for either the WWE Women's Championship or the Women's World Championship. Allowing an up-and-comer to win the title makes far more sense at this point. Besides, she can always win the title later.
