3 Reasons why Gunther must win the 2024 WWE Crown Jewel Championship
WWE Chief Content Officer Triple H unveiled the Crown Jewel Championship at Bad Blood 2024. As he inaugurated the title, The Game announced that it would be contested annually at its namesake event between the reigning world champions of both the men's and women's rosters.
As things stand, Cody Rhodes and Gunther will likely compete for the inaugural men's Crown Jewel Title. Should they manage to hold on to their gold, The American Nightmare and The Ring General will tussle it out in Saudi Arabia for bragging rights, defending the honor of their respective brands. Which champion should come out on top when all is said and done?
Here are three reasons why Gunther should become the 2024 WWE Crown Jewel Champion.
#3 It would add legitimacy to the World Heavyweight Championship
Ever since the World Heavyweight Championship was introduced, the company has been doing its best to raise its prestige to match the Undisputed WWE Title. With over 60 years of history and a champions' lineage full of Hall of Famers, the latter prize towers over every other in the industry, arguably making RAW's top title feel like a consolation trophy.
The great work of champions like Seth Rollins, Damian Priest, and Gunther has seen it rapidly gain stature, and Crown Jewel offers another opportunity to elevate it. Having the World Heavyweight Champion defeat the Undisputed WWE Champion would add legitimacy to the newer title, going a long way toward silencing the "consolation title" talk.
#2 Cody Rhodes can be protected in defeat to Gunther
Cody Rhodes and Gunther are currently traveling vastly different roads as the respective top champions on WWE SmackDown and RAW. While The American Nightmare is going the noble route by taking on all comers and never backing down from a fight, The Ring General is employing all sorts of underhanded tactics to keep his gold.
As such, there is an easy path that can be taken to bring a potential meeting between these megastars without "burying" either. Interference from Rhodes' eternal foes from The Bloodline or Gunther's trusty sidekick Ludwig Kaiser could do the trick, helping the Imperium leader clinch the win.
The involvement of Solo Sikoa and Co. could be particularly elegant, leading to a Survivor Series match.
#1 The WWE Crown Jewel Title is more fitting for Gunther than for Cody Rhodes
As of WWE Bad Blood 2024, Gunther is an obnoxious aristocratic heel champion who craves pomp and achievement to show his superiority. Meanwhile, Cody Rhodes is the proverbial people's champion, fighting with grit and nobility for fans and his family name.
Given Crown Jewel's relatively divisive reputation with fans, it would arguably suit The Ring General better to hold the new championship. Such a symbol of pomp and extravagance should be held by a champion who is not shy to brag about it. As such, it arguably makes more sense for the Imperium leader to come out on top. All this assuming either man is still champion by November.
